Paying in from the UK — getting pounds into a euro account
Mad Casino runs your balance in euros. Every deposit from a UK account is a currency conversion, and how you make it decides what it costs.

Methods advertised
Visa and Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, bank transfer, and cryptocurrency including Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT. The minimum to trigger any welcome tier is €10, about £8.50.
Who converts, and at what cost
With a UK debit card, the casino charges in euros and your card network converts. Many UK cards then add a non-sterling transaction fee, often in the region of 3%, and some banks add a fixed charge as well. On a £100 deposit that can mean £3 or more gone before you play. Some card-issuing apps and travel cards convert closer to the market rate; check your own card's fee schedule.
E-wallets give you a little more control. You load the wallet in pounds, convert once, and both deposits and withdrawals pass through the same place. Wallets charge their own conversion margin, so compare it against your card before choosing.
A bank transfer in euros from a UK account may involve an international payment fee at your end. It is the slowest of the options and the least practical for small sums.
Bank gambling blocks
Many UK banks and card providers now let you switch on a gambling block in their app, which stops card payments to merchants coded as gambling. If yours is on, the deposit will be declined — that is the block doing its job. Some blocks need a cooling-off period of 48 hours or more to switch off, deliberately. If you set one up during a difficult spell, think carefully before removing it.
Banks can also decline offshore gambling transactions as a matter of risk policy. That is not a fault at the casino's end, and trying card after card is a habit worth noticing.
Crypto deposits
Crypto avoids the card network, but it does not avoid risk. The value of the coin can move between buying it and depositing, and again before you withdraw. UK exchanges must be registered with the Financial Conduct Authority for anti-money-laundering purposes, and many will ask what a transfer is for. Profits on disposing of crypto can fall within capital gains rules — winnings themselves are not taxed, but the coin may be.
A sensible set-up
- Decide the month's budget in pounds, then convert once rather than topping up repeatedly.
- Use the same method for deposits and withdrawals where possible; it speeds up checks.
- Set a deposit limit in the casino account before the first payment.
- Never use credit, overdraft or a "buy now, pay later" balance to gamble.
Questions from UK players
Why was my UK card declined?
Several common reasons: your bank has a gambling block switched on, it treats offshore gambling merchants as higher risk, or it declines non-sterling gambling transactions. Your bank can tell you which.
Can I use a credit card?
UK-licensed operators have been banned from accepting credit cards for gambling since April 2020. An offshore site is not bound by that ban, but we strongly advise against it: you would be gambling with borrowed money, and card issuers may treat it as a cash advance with fees and interest from day one.
